Clint Ashley memorial

Clint Ashley, an original PCC board member when the organization began in the mid-1990s, passed away recently.  We were notified by his wife Linda Ashley, herself an original PCC board member.  Below is a memorial, written by Paul LeFrancois, who serves on the current PCC board and was a friend to Clint.

clint ashley former board memberI was saddened to learn of the recent passing of Clint Ashley.  When the idea of a statewide cycling advocacy group was being discussed in the mid 1990s, a small group of cycling advocates began meeting to create such an organization.  Among those early advocates were Clint and Linda Ashley from Summerville.  They brought enthusiasm and passion to the group.  Creating a statewide organization from scratch is not an easy thing.  They both gave willingly of their time to get the PCC off the ground during those early critical years of survival.   Clint always pushed us to keep moving forward and he along with Linda served as valued representatives for cyclists in the lowcountry.   I appreciate Linda’s request for donations to be made to the PCC in his memory.   There is still much to do to improve South Carolina’s cycling environment and I think Clint would appreciate friends continuing to support the efforts he helped initiate some 20 years ago.

  1. I am so sorry for this news. Clint and Linda were not only great advocates for cycling, but were terrifically fun cyclists, too. I had enjoyed many a tomato sandwich hot from the fields on rides they led from their home.
