Bicycle Traffic Safety by the Book

The Smart Cycling program, established by the League of American Bicyclists, is bicycle education curriculum for adults and children.  The classes within Smart Cycling are taught across the US by League Cycling Instructors (LCI).  In South Carolina we have about thirty LCI‘s, who are capable of teaching this material to diverse audiences around the state.

This past Saturday, three LCI’s partnered to teach a course within the Smart Cycling program, called Traffic Skills 101.  These instructors (Pat Devine #657, Will Haltiwanger #1696, Rachael Kefalos #2734) hosted the class in Columbia and delivered the knowledge and insight to eight engaged and passionate individuals.

If you are interested in getting in touch with an LCI in your area or want to know if there are any plans for an upcoming course near you, contact Rachael.  She helps oversee the LCI’s and their activities in South Carolina.

  1. I wasn’t able to attend this one. I’d sure like to find out when the next one will be held.

And a dumb question, but why was a helmet required?

  2. Not a dumb question. As with any event that we are involved with, we strongly advocate and require helmet use. This is also an important facet of the Smart Cycling Curriculum.
