PCC welcomes Joanne Burkett!

Joanne Burkett

We are thrilled to welcome Joanne Burkett as our new Community Engagement Manager! Joanne will lead our Bike, Walk, Trails Summit late Spring 2023, in addition to helping our Livable Streets Academy and managing citizen and donor engagement activities.

Joanne has been a cyclist since her husband Alan gave her a tandem bike for law school graduation. In 2016 she and a friend started a local cycling group (WeCycle) in Greenwood, South Carolina, primarily for women and beginning / rehab / returning cyclists. She represented the biking community in her local Wholespire (formerly Eat Smart Move More) coalition and was appointed to the Greenwood County Transportation Committee in 2021.

Joanne has worked as an attorney and in philanthropy, grants management, and fundraising. She received her undergraduate degree from Columbia College and her law degree from USC. A native of Seneca, SC, she is passionate about helping people thrive by building on the strengths of connection, community and resilience often found in small towns. “Biking and walking get us outside where it’s easier to become more social, healthy, and aware of the beauty of SC and also the challenges of safety and equity. I am excited to join the PCC’s remarkable efforts to engage more people in creating an even better South Carolina.”
