What do Charleston, Columbia and Greenville have in common?

Local leaders and community members in all three cities are interested in making their cities more safe and friendly for bicycling as a way to improve the health and quality of in their community.

To reign in this momentum, PCC has joined Palmetto Conservation Foundation (PCF) to bring Portland-based bicycle transportation expert Mia Birk to South Carolina.

Please join us in welcoming Mia to Charleston, Columbia and Greenville on September 7, 8, and 9 respectively for all day events, including a free lecture, a family-fun bike event, and book signing from her new groundbreaking book, Joyride: Pedaling Toward a Healthier Planet. Specific details to come.

Mia Birk is President of Alta Planning + Design and Principal at Alta Bicycle Sharing, Inc., which create active communities where bicycling and walking are safe, healthy, fun, and normal daily activities. She is co-founder of Portland State University’s Initiative for Bicycle and Pedestrian Innovation and author of Joyride: Pedaling Toward a Healthier Planet. Mia lives and rides with her two children in Portland, Oregon, where she was Bicycle Program Manager from 1993-1999.
