Street Sweeper’s Church Tour: Georgetown

JUNE 7, 2019, by Corrine Reed

Our next stop on the Street Sweeper’s Church Tour isThursday, June 12 at 6pm at Choppee Recreation Center in Georgetown, SC!

We’re partnering with National Action Network of SC, the NAACP of SC, and the Gullah Geechee Chamber of Commerce to host a community conversation on the importance of safe public streets.

Join us to discuss the state of SC’s streets, and how we can make publicly-owned streets safe and accessible for everyone, regardless of transportation choice.

We will be led by Tiffany James, equity consultant for the SC Livable Communities Alliance. We will also hear from Tammaka Staley (The National Action Network), Marilyn Hemingway, and Marvin Neal.

The name is inspired by Martin Luther King’s Street Sweepers’ speech on being the best we can be. We are centering our conversation on this speech because our goal is to make SC’s streets the best they can be.

“Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well’”– Martin Luther King, Jr.
